The construction sector of Bangladesh has grown considerably during the last two decades, accounting for about 10 percent of the gross domestic product of the country. The sector plays a strong role in the economy amid continued urbanisation. The sector employs 3.5 million Bangladeshi directly and indirectly and also created several dozens of ancillary industries, namely in steel, cement, tiles and sanitary ware, cable and electric ware, paint, glass and aluminium, brick and other building materials.
Established in 1995, Bangladesh Association of Construction Industry (BACI) vision is to build Bangladesh with ethics, skills and responsibility. BACI’s mission is to be the national voice for the Bangladeshi construction industry. Maintain the prestige of the construction Industry, namely engineering, contractors, promote mutual cooperation amongst contractors, to protect their rights and interests, and to strive for improvement of construction related legislations, construction related economic policy, as well as construction technology/ technique to contribute towards efficient progress and development of the nation’s construction industry.
