IOM as an intergovernmental organization is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all, supported by 156 Member States, a further 16 observer states, and 400 field offices in over 150 countries.
IOM believes in achieving this goal through a close connection with its Member States, through which cooperation, understanding and communication with high-level government officials can be achieved.
IOM also has a Cooperation Agreement with the United Nations (UN), formalizing a longstanding and close working partnership with the UN and its organizations.
IOM works in four broad areas of migration management in support of the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society:
• Migration and Development
• Facilitating Migration
• Regulating Migration
• Forced Migration
